Cub Scout Investigators Need Your Help!

To: All Cub Scouts, Webelo Scouts, leaders and parents! Join other Catholic Scouting Cub Scouts and families for a day of faith and fun! The Cub Scouts will participate in age-appropriate activities focusing on the “Case for God”

The Webelos will participate in their own program: They will learn about and fulfill the requirements for two Saints from our "Footsteps of American Saints Program. "

In addition they will work on and fulfill the requirements to earn the Showman Activity Pin. The Saints Patches will be available for purchase at the Trading post and also at the OCS.

The Activity Pins are ordered through your Cub Pack or on your own.

Uncover the clues below on how to be part of the CSI Team 4 GOD!

One Leader or Parent is REQUIRED for every 5 Scouts. You can register as group or individual. If you register as a group, your registration will be listed with the name of the person who registered. Please check in as a group.

EARLY REGISTRATION BONUS: Register & pay on or before March 12, 2012 @ $6.00 for each Scout & each leader or parent.

Registration Fee AFTER March 12, 2012, and on the day of the event is $8.00 for each Scout & leader or parent. Walk-in’s welcome, but advance registration encouraged!

Bring: filled water bottle, warm clothes, extra shoes and a morning snack. Bring money for the store because we have “cool stuff” for sale!

An optional hot dog meal can be purchased at $2.00 per person. Lunch is “Stone Soup” drink, condiments, bowls, utensils, are provided.

Bring a vegetable for the stone soup! Each participant should bring the following ingredients:

CAMPOUT IN THE GROVE

It's back again, folks... one of the most fun events of our year: the annual Campout in the Grove!

Join us for a fun night of activities, skits, and games with the SDS Boy Scouts, followed by camping out in real tents!

The SDS Boy Scouts finish off this great event by cooking breakfast for all the Cub Scouts!

Who can come: All boys in grades 1-5 interested in scouting

Please bring: Sleeping bags/pillows, change of clothes, toiletries, and a flashlight

Note: At least one parent must accompany all children that camp overnight.

Scout Sunday - Feb 6

Just a reminder that Scout Mass is 10:30 this coming Sunday, February 6. Please have your scout at the church in full uniform by 10am so that we can line up for the entrance procession. After the procession and a blessing from Father, the boys will return to the pews to sit with their families.

Stick around after mass! The 2nd Grade Wolves and the 4th Grade Webelos 1 will be receiving their Religious Medals from Father! The ceremony only takes about 10 minutes, and is a great way to support our scouts in their faith development!

Thanks to all the adults, leaders, and volunteers who make Scout Sunday such an important day for our sons!

Hey folks... it's almost here... the 2011 Pack 725 Pinewood Derby. Here's the scoop on this week's details:

THURSDAY, JAN 27 in Feuerbacher Hall

7:00 PM Unofficial weigh-in. Come on in and check your car's weight. It's not "official," but will help you make any last-minute adjustments!

FRIDAY, JAN 28 in Feuerbacher Hall

6:30PM: Official Registration starts... cars will be weighed, measured, and entered into the races.

7:00PM: Pack Meeting begins.

7:30PM: Races begin.

Good luck to all! We are looking forward to seeing some exciting designs and some solid races!

SDS Pack 725 Pinewood Derby Rules

CARS: Scouts must use the official BSA pinewood derby kit. NO precut hobby shop cars will be allowed. Cars are to be built new for this year’s derby.

INSPECTION: Cars must pass inspection on the day of the race to compete. Officials may disqualify cars at any time if found to be illegal.

WIDTH: Overall width must not exceed 2.75 inches. Width between the wheels must remain at 1.75 inches.

LENGTH: Overall length cannot exceed 7 inches of the track.

WEIGHT: Car may not exceed 5.0 ounces. You may hollow out the body to insert weights or build the body up by adding wood, metal, etc. CARS WILL BE WEIGHED ON THE OFFICIAL SCALES ON THE DAY OF THE RACE.

WHEELS: Only the wheels from the BSA kit will be allowed. You may lightly sand the wheel surface to remove the burr but the wheel must remain flat. Wheels may NOT be altered in any other way.

AXLES: The nails provided in the kit must be used for the axles. They may NOT be turned down by machine. They may be smoothed lightly with sandpaper and the burr on the nail head may be filed down. No bearings, bushings, tubes or springs will be allowed. No one-piece axles will be allowed.

AXLE SLOTS: Slots may NOT be moved or altered in any way. Axles should be put into the top of the slot, which will give the car 3/8-inch ground clearance. Officials must be able to see into the slot to insure that proper axles have been used.

LUBRICATION: Only graphite is allowed. NO type of oil lubricants. Once the car has passed inspection, it may NOT be retrieved for lubrication. PLEASE DO NOT BRING GRAPHITE INTO THE CAFETERIA!

REPAIRS: All repairs must be made under an official’s supervision after the car has passed inspection. Upon completion of the repair, car weight will be checked for compliance rules.

DECISIONS: By race officials on race day are final and cannot be appealed!

Thank you so much for the beautiful ring that I was given as a farewell gift from Saint Dominic Savio. While the gift was not necessary, it was certainly wonderful and humbling to receive; I am going to have the parish's name engraved on the interior of the ring.

I will miss not seeing all of you on a regular basis. You were all like my nephews. Thank you for the good work that you do in the scouting programs and thanks to your parents for supporting this worthwhile program.

Memorial Day Good Turn at Jefferson Barracks

Sunday, May 30 is the "Good Turn" at Jefferson Barracks, where Scouts from all around the area gather to place American flags on the graves at Jefferson Barracks Memorial Cemetery.

This is a great service project for those of you who have not attended. Imagine thousands of scouts planting American Flags on the graves of our honored veterans for Memorial Day. It is quite an event.

If you would like to attend, please let your Den Leader know ASAP. I need to send the names of our volunteers to District by May 1st.

Cub Scout Christmas Party

Just a reminder that our Cub Scout Christmas Party is Sunday, December 20 from 5-8pm in Feuerbacher Hall.

We will have a short den meeting to pass out earned awards, and then will dig into chili, hot dogs and a movie!

Scouting For Food

Hey folks,

Here's some information about the Scouting for Food program.

November 14

We will distribute the bags to houses. Let's meet at 9:30 AM in the SDS parking lot to assign territories and bags to Dens.

Plan on this taking your Den about 2 to 2 1/2 hours to complete.

Be sure your Scouts use the Buddy System. You will leave bags on doors. Do not enter homes and do not put bags on mailboxes.

November 21

We will meet at SDS at 9:30 AM. We will assign collection territories to Dens. The Boy Scouts will be working with us.

We need parents to help haul the bags from the neighborhood back to the SDS parking lot, which is our collection point.

Again, Scouts will utilize the Buddy System.

Just a quick note to draw your attention to the date change for the Cub Scout Christmas Party.

Fr. Mike Lydon is celebrating 25 years as a priest on Dec. 13, and needed Feuerbacher Hall that afternoon.

We've pushed the Cub Scout Christmas Party back one week, to Sunday, Dec. 20, from 5pm -8pm.

Catholic Cub Scout Day

Catholic Cub Day to be held on March 27, 2010. This annual event is a special day for your Cub Scouts to experience. Typically the event goes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is jammed packed with activities plus lunch. Attendance has ranged from 300-400 Scouts.

More details and the event theme will be coming out soon as the event draws closer. This is a great event not to miss at Cub World and bring as many Cubs as you can.

Religious Awards

Cub Scouts can earn religious awards, which will be presented to them by Fr. Jack in a special ceremony on Scout Sunday in early February.

Wolves can earn the Light of Christ Award.

Bears and Webelos can earn the Parvuli Dei Award.

Both awards are earned by completing a program guide and returning the completed guide to Religious Coordinator, Jen Meehan, no later than January 15, 2010. The guide is meant to be completed by the Scout and his parent(s). This is a great opportunity for our Scouts to learn more about our faith, while sharing and growing with his Mom or Dad.

Don't forget... new scout signup is next Thursday, Sept 17 6:30 pm in the Upper Huhn Center. This is necessary for all new boys interested in joining scouts this school year.

Bears First Meeting

The Bears will have their first meeting Wednesday, September 16th from 3:15 until 4:30. The boys do not need to wear their uniforms for this meeting since they have PE that day.

Pack Meeting - Date Change

The first Pack Meeting of this school year will take place on Tuesday, Sept 22 (not on Sept 29). Please note this date change.

The meeting will take place from 7-8pm in the Grove. (If it is raining, the meeting will be in Feuerbacher Hall instead).

Campout Details

Dinner is not included on Friday night. Scouts should arrive having eaten dinner. We will have a snack before bedtime. Breakfast will be served on Saturday morning by the Boy Scouts.

Scouts should bring their own sleeping bag, pillow, flashlight, canteen or water bottle, bug spray, clothes. Tents are provided by Pack 725.

Saturday morning, festivities will conclude with a parent-scout water balloon toss. Parents are encouraged to attend this campout with their scout!

Campout In Grove

This year's Scout Campout will take place Friday, Aug 28- Saturday Aug 29.

You MUST RSVP to your Den Leader by Tuesday Aug 25 if you are planning to attend. (Incoming Tiger Cubs (1st graders) may RSVP to Cubmaster Jim at 638-6945 and must have a parent attending with them).

Here's the scoop:

Arrive in Grove: 6:00pm on Friday

From 6:00 - 8:45 pm: crafts, games (kickball, volleyball), activities (balloon toss, water rocket launch), and an evening snack

8:45 - 9:30: Campfire, skits, songs

9:30: retire to tents for lights out

Saturday morning: breakfast of pancakes or french toast, sausage and orange juice.

Pick-up Time: 10:00 AM in Grove

What to Bring: Sleeping bag, pillow, bug spray, flashlight, cup or canteen, clothes (all should be marked with scout's name)

Cost: NONE. The tents are provided by Pack 725, and the meals/activities will be provided by the Boy Scouts.

Remember to RSVP to your Den Leader (or to Cubmaster Jim, if you are a 1st grader) no later than Tuesday Aug. 25 so you don't miss out on the fun!
